You may have heard the proverb ” a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. This saying is attributed to the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu (Old Master) writing 500 years before the birth of Christ. The wisdom has stood the test of time and is particularly applicable to some of us here tonight.
Question: “How many of you would like to become an Eagle Scout?” All of you…. that’s what I expected. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is your thousand mile journey. All of you boys in this circle tonight are already on that journey, but for the WEBELOS visiting our Troop tonight you are are at a special way-station. You can choose to finish your journey, now at the end of Cub Scouts, or you can choose to recommit to Scouting and step off on the journey again as a Boy Scout.
I hope that by visiting our Troop tonight you have already made the choice to continue the journey. We’re eager to walk the trail with you and help you along the way. To take the next step along that path, let your parents know that you’ve already made the first step by deciding to join a Boy Scout Troop.
